Sir Charlie Mayfield Visits Daisy
Leading telecoms company Daisy recently welcomed esteemed British businessman Sir Charlie Mayfield to its Sheffield office to celebrate its partnership with regional Job Centre Plus (JCP) branches. During the visit, Sir Charlie praised Daisy’s innovative approach to hiring and its commitment to fostering inclusive employment opportunities.
Daisy works closely with its local JCP, recently hiring ten young people through the sector-based work academy programme (SWAP) courses run by JCP. This collaboration was highlighted during Sir Charlie’s visit, where he met Daisy CEO Dave McGinn, toured the Sheffield office, and spoke with employees who had secured full-time positions through the SWAP programme.
The visit was part of Sir Charlie’s leadership in an independent review into the role of UK employers in reducing health-related inactivity and promoting inclusive workplaces. Titled “Keep Britain Working,” the review aligns closely with Daisy’s mission of the same name.
Speaking about the visit, Sir Charlie Mayfield, former Chair of John Lewis, said: “It was hugely valuable to get a feel for the realities of hiring and retention in the market, and the proactive way in which Daisy has worked to make its business more accessible to young people who might otherwise have struggled to get into work.”
Dave McGinn, CEO of Daisy, added: “Our mission at Daisy is ‘Keep Britain Working,’ so it’s been a privilege to host Sir Charlie as he leads the review of the same name. We’re passionate about creating career opportunities for young people, and our partnership with JCP has enabled us to offer ten people a job. The SWAP programme has been fantastic—not only for the talent it has brought to our business but for the opportunities it provides to those looking to start their careers.”
Sir Charlie was accompanied by David Long from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and local JCP representatives John Casey and Paul Harper, who witnessed firsthand the impact of Daisy’s commitment to its partnership with JCP.
Rob Gamble, Talent Acquisition Team Lead at Daisy, shared his enthusiasm for the programme’s success: “The SWAP programme has been instrumental in helping us find passionate, enthusiastic, and skilled individuals to join our team.”
Katy Bray, Talent Acquisition Advisor added: “We’ve already seen great success in Sheffield and are excited to replicate this across our offices nationwide.”
With offices in eight locations across the UK, Daisy is committed to expanding its collaboration with job centres, ensuring its innovative hiring approach has a lasting impact on communities throughout the country.
