As a small business, your telephone line is a crucial communication channel, impacting your sales right through to the valuable relationships you nurture with your customers.

However, with the 2025 Switch Off of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) on the near horizon, we are on the cusp of significant change in the way we conduct business conversations.

We understand the vital role that your telephone line plays in your daily operations. So whether you’re already aware of the Switch Off, or if you’re hearing about it for the first time, this article aims to equip you with all of the information needed to understand what is happening, what products are affected and what you need to do to safeguard your service.

Explore our quick guide now for answers to our most frequently asked questions or speak to one of our dedicated specialists today.

What is happening?

The imminent PSTN Switch Off will result in the retirement of certain products, while the stop sell that came into effect at the start of September means you can no longer purchase or make changes to any phone line or system that isn’t cloud-ready. This is an industry-wide change, actioned by Openreach, meaning unless you have adopted cloud-ready broadband and telephony, you will be affected no matter who your provider is.

The following products, will be retiring:

Business telephone service

  • Single and multi-line analogue lines
  • ISDN 2 and 30 lines

Business broadband service

  • Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)
  • GFAST
  • Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC)
  • Ethernet First Mile (EFM)

What do you need to do?

If you rely on any of these products, it is essential to understand that your service will be disrupted or cease to function once the Switch Off occurs. To avoid any interruptions or inconveniences, you must act promptly.
